C licence

The C license category grants the right to drive a truck with a total weight exceeding 7,500 kg. This license also allows driving with a trailer that has a total weight of up to 750 kg. To tow a heavier trailer, CE certification is required.

When can I obtain a C license?

An individual who is at least 21 years old and holds a full driving license can obtain a C license.

How much theoretical training is required for a C license?

You need to complete 84 lessons. This includes 52 lessons as part of the basic course and 32 lessons in the advanced course. In total, this takes a little over 16 working days.

How many driving lessons do I need to take?

You need to take 12 practical driving lessons, plus the exam session, totaling 13 hours.

Note: Those who already hold a D license only need to take 8 practical driving lessons, plus one exam session, totaling 9 hours.

What do I need to do to tow a trailer heavier than 750 kg?

To tow a trailer or equipment heavier than 750 kg, you need to obtain CE certification. You can read more about CE certification by clicking here.

Will I obtain commercial driving rights with a C license after completing the course?

Yes.

The general price for C certification is ISK 410,000, which includes all theoretical and practical training.

Those who have previously completed advanced certifications (C1, B/Far [taxi], or D licenses) do not need to pay the full course fee.

Will I also obtain a C1 license if I only take C certification?

Yes, those without C1 certification will automatically gain C1 certification with C certification.

The CE license category grants the right to drive a truck in the C category with a trailer exceeding 750 kg in total weight. Students who obtain trailer certification in the CE category will also have those rights extended to the DE category.

Note: To obtain CE certification, the individual must already hold a C license.

The price for CE certification is ISK 160,000, which includes theoretical and practical training as well as the practical exam session. Please note that if additional practical lessons are required beyond the 5 necessary lessons, they must be paid for separately.

If the individual already holds C1E certification, the course fee is reduced to ISK 135,000.
